From 1981 to 1988, he studied at the Department of Film/Television at the Kassel University of the Arts (HdK). Since 1988, he has been based in Berlin, developing and working on his own projects in screenwriting, directing, and production (including live-action, animation, character animation, 3D computer animation, special effects, and documentary). He has worked as a cinematographer for documentaries, animation, and feature films, and has contributed to projects in script development, post-production, co-direction, dramaturgy, editing, and camera work. In 1989, he was awarded the German Federal Film Prize (Bundesfilmpreis) for a short film (Director). Since 1996, he has held a teaching position at the Film University Babelsberg “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam. He has produced and directed children’s short films in the fields of animation (2D/3D) and virtual special effects (combining live-action and animation). Since 2004, he has been a Professor of Animation and Game Production in the Faculty of Media at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, where he has developed various degree programs. His research interests include “Non-Photo-Realistic Rendering” and “Immersive Storytelling.”
